The ValueViewer, the Artist's Contrast Tool, is handmade by an artist for artists.
Analyzing your artwork and subject matter for contrast and shape can often be difficult.
The ValueViewer makes this process much easier by removing color from the equation allowing you to concentrate on constrast and shape relationships. At the left you see an acrylic work by Lorelei L. Christy by itself and, on the right, seen through the ValueViewer. You can see how much easier it is to assess contrast relationships within the artwork once color is removed from the equation. This way you can compare size, shape and contrast without the color information confusing the whole thing.

Two Sizes

The ValueViewer is made by hand by an artist for artists. Two layers of sturdy mat-board [one white and one black] are mounted back-to-back holding durable polyester-based filter medium for long wear and heavy use. The ValueViewer is available in two sizes: 8 x 10 & 5 x 7. The 8 x 10 has a nominal viewing area of 5 x 7 and the 5 x 7 has a nominal view of 3.5 x 5.5. The larger size is better for studio use while the smaller is easier to pack for plein air use.

Two Colors

The ValueViewer is available in both red and green to accomodate a wide range of media, palettes and subject matter. ::: The red and green ValueViewer work the same although green is often more effective if your piece has more red or warmer content. Some colored pencil artists seem to prefer the green version, however, the red version is usually the most effective and is the most popular.
